Reed Richards was a judo master for one panel to explain how Sue broke Doctor Doom’s grip (because, being a girl, she couldn’t possibly have done it on her own.) So I don’t think that was a thing two panels later in the same story even.
It was part and parcel with Reed having been in the OSS, and being so important a scientist he had the President’s ear (no, not in a jar!). I’ve always wanted to see that side of Reed explored, too – sure, Marvel time means he wasn’t in the OSS any more, but it doesn’t mean he couldn’t have had a past in espionage, and have substantial government contacts that could lead to interesting stories…
I would read that.
